Post up for top awards
Your paper honoured for standout year
A YEAR of consistent readership growth has the Cairns Post up for two major awards including the prestigious News Brand of the Year at News Corp’s annual awards tonight in Sydney.
The Far North’s premier media organisation is a finalist alongside some of the biggest names in journalism including The Australian, Sunday Telegraph, The Mercury (Hobart), News.com and The Weekly Times for the coveted prize.
It is also a finalist in Achievements in Regional Journalism. Cairns Post photographer Justin Brierty is one of three finalists in the Photograph of the Year category.
Editor Jennifer Spilsbury said the Cairns Post had reinforced its reputation as the leader in quality local news.
“Our print and online audiences are growing in a challenging age,” Mrs Spilsbury said. “We are committed to delivering news that matters to this region and campaigning for what matters to them.”
The Cairns Post recorded some of the best readership growth of any newspaper in the country. Print readership has been as high as 79,000 for both Monday to Friday editions and the Weekend Post in the past year. Digital and home delivery subscriptions are increasing as well.
“The Cairns Post is a trusted brand and people turn to us both online and in print to get the story first and better than anyone else,” Mrs Spilsbury said. She paid tribute to the dedication of the entire team, which spreads from Port Douglas, west to the Tablelands and south to Innisfail.
News Corp CEO Robert Thomson will be special guest at tonight’s ceremony.
