Determined exercise let model fit in

-

BONDI’S original vegan and bikini babe Annalise Braakensiek says the pressure to look perfect in her modelling days was even greater than the scrutiny models face today.

The 44-year-old said she never had the luxury of digital airbrushing when she began her career 25 years ago.

“When I first started modelling, retouching didn't exist,” Braakensiek said.

“You had to look hot and be completely fit up against these incredible supermodels.

“That’s why I always had to look after myself and go to the gym and train so hard.”

Braakensiek said the fashion industry in the 90s demanded models be dangerously thin, fuelled by the popularity of the waif look.

Despite her success, Braakensiek said she never really wanted to be a model.

“I fought against it for a long time and then I thought it’s so lucrative, so I deferred from uni thinking I’d do it for a year and 25 years later, I’m still doing it.”

The R U OK? ambassador has teamed up with EcoCaffe biodegradable coffee pods to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.

Braakensiek, also a jewellery designer, has collaborated with the brand to create a coffee and necklace package that will donate $50 to R U OK? for every one sold.
