CAIRNS Regional Council is seeking local performers to audition for principal, chorus and choir roles in a musical theatre community engagement production for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonweal­th Games. Cairns will host Festival 2018, a bold arts and cultural 12-day program designed to galvanise the region, inspire audiences and celebrate the games. The second round of auditions for principal roles will be held November 1819. Anyone interested in auditionin­g must complete the registrati­on form by 5pm on Thursday. Nature activities

YOUNG children will have the chance to take part in naturebase­d activities at the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, with the ‘Little Taccas’ program. Aimed at children aged under five years, the fortnightl­y program features nature-based activities in the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, including art and craft, storytelli­ng, singalongs and garden discovery walks. The next Little Taccas session will be held on Thursday from 10am-noon at The Deck, near Tank 3. Children must be accompanie­d by a parent or care giver. Spaces are limited so book phone 4032 6600.

Recycling tips

GET tips on how to best recycle at a series of pop-up info stalls set up at local shopping centres around Cairns this week. As part of National Recycling Week (November 13-19), residents can have a chat about all things recycling. Pop-up stalls will be located at Smithfield Shopping Centre today, from 10am-noon, Stockland Earlville Shopping Centre tomorrow from 10am-noon, and Cairns Central Shopping Centre on Friday at 10am-noon.

Man stabbed

A HOPE Vale woman is set to face court today after allegedly stabbing her partner. Police were called to a Link Rd home about 10am on Saturday. The 43-yearold local woman has been charged with unlawful wounding. The 46-year-old Coen man suffered non-life threatenin­g injuries.
