Bash suspect denied bail
A CAIRNS man is continuing to fight for his life in hospital after he was allegedly hit over the head with a milk bottle and assaulted by his neighbour.
The 51-year-old was flown to Townsville Hospital on Saturday with life-threatening head injuries including bleeding on the brain allegedly suffered during an altercation at a Kidston St home on Friday evening.
Victor Scope, 37, appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with grievous bodily harm and was denied bail by Magistrate Kerry Magee after the court heard he had a violent criminal history dating back decades.
During the bail application, prosecutor Senior Constable Trevor Woodman said the complainant had been on life support in Cairns Hospital.
The court was told it was alleged that the 51-year-old received multiple kicks punches to the head.
It is understood the pair knew each other.
Sen-Constable Woodman argued Mr Scope could interfere with witnesses given that one was his girlfriend and another was an associate.
The court heard that Mr Scope was currently on parole for failing to appear and breaching domestic violence order offences.
Ms Magee, who agreed with police that Mr Scope was an unacceptable risk of reoffending, said the defendant had seven priors for failing to appear and 10 priors for breaching bail conditions. and
