Clean set of heels to Lockhart River

-

ORANGE Sky is en route to the top end of Australia to help improve hygiene standards in the remote community of Lockhart River, 800km north of Cairns.

Three washing machines and three dryers have been fitted in an ex-defence truck, named ‘Phytham’ by the Lockhart River traditional owners. It took six months to build and is the first of its kind in Orange Sky’s national fleet of 21 vehicles.

Orange Sky Co-founder Nic Marchesi said Phytham was ready for the long drive, leaving from Cairns yesterday morning.

“We feel very privileged to be accepted into the Lockhart River community and be part of the journey towards improved health outcomes,’’ he said.

“This is the first remote area that we’ve expanded to, and we’re so excited to see the positive impact for local people.’’
