Daniel’s day a lesson for all schoolchildren
DANIEL Morcombe standing all alone at a bus stop.
A stranger in his car comes driving up to Daniel, he gets in the car and, in that second, his life was gone.
Now that’s why Our Lady Help of Christians school commemorates Daniel Morcombe Day.
Daniel Morcombe Day is a day to remember Daniel and to prevent this from happening again.
Daniel Morcombe was born on December 19, 1989, and died on December 7, 2003.
On October 27, OLHOC school commemorated Daniel Morcombe Day by wearing red shirts because Daniel disappeared while wearing a red shirt.
Students who chose to wear red instead of their uniform had to donate a gold coin. More than $590 was raised for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
Daniel’s parents set up a safety website to educate children to stay away from people they do not know.
Over recent weeks students from all grades have been participating in lessons about stranger danger so the students knew they were raising money for a good cause.
Daniel’s parents have helped educate 260,000 students across Queensland and visited 1000 schools over Australia.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s belief and vision is one that incorporates a future where all children are given education, protection and support to be safe from harm.
