Footballers, fans equally inspired by Roos

-

IT was incredible to be there as the Socceroos created history on Wednesday.

It wasn’t that long ago that I qualified for the 2014 World Cup and to be part of that Golden Generation against Uruguay was fantastic.

I think us footballers live four years at a time: you know where you are at in your life every four years because of the World Cup, so I think we’re very fortunate that we’re in this generation where kids are able to watch the Socceroos play in four consecutive World Cups.

Walking around the stadium on the night and seeing the passion and hope in the kids’ eyes, hopefully it drives them to achieve great things too.

We’re blessed that the boys did the job. It’s a dream come true and it’s so important for football in this country.

Turning attention to the Hyundai A-League, I was happy getting through 90 minutes last week against Melbourne City after coming back from injury. With the new style we’re trying to play, I was more focused on that and trying to win the game than if my body would hold up but unfortunately we had to settle for a draw.

After four away games in a row we look forward to getting back in front of our home fans at Spotless Stadium tomorrow against Wellington Phoenix.

We started the season well at home and we need to keep that streak going. Hopefully we can turn these draws into wins using that home support.

Getting those first 10 points to start the league are hard but once you get over that you can really kick-on in the season.

This weekend is a must win if we want to be challenging. There are no easy games in the Hyundai A-League.

With the mentality of this club, we want to win the league so we want that pressure of having to win games and hopefully we can grab the three points tomorrow and build from there.
