It’s a pizza cake with the 4Ps
By Victory Kumung, Year 10, Peace Lutheran College
AT THE end of term three, the Year 10 business class managed a stall at the 2017 Peace Lutheran College Spring Fair. As part of the planning process, we followed the 4Ps to establish our marketing plan:
PRODUCT
We presented ideas and options as to what we would sell, eliminating some before coming up with a pizza stall. This product was chosen because it is convenient, being located at Redlynch, it is simple with affordable pricing and lastly because Domino’s is a favourite and well-known pizza shop.
PLACE
The spring fair was decided because we would have many target customers of students, teachers, parents and visitors. The location for the stall was chosen because it was situated at an opening, in clear view and was well illuminated. An added bonus was the adjacent bench seating, which attracted people to sit and eat their pizza.
PRICE
A price for the pizza was negotiated with our supplier, Domino’s, and as we had to have the pizza delivered, we needed to factor in the delivery cost in order to make a profit. We ordered 35 pizzas altogether. There were eight PROFIT: Terina Hagger, Doreen Stephen and Victory Kumung at the school fair. slices in each box. We sold each slice for $2 and made a profit of $281.75.
PROMOTION
We promoted our stall prior to the event and had bright, clear, effective signs that was highly visible to the passing traffic.
Overall, the 4Ps were effective.
Our business adventure was a success because of the student support on the day, with two to three people on hourly shifts,; the teamwork for pre-promotion, setting up, advertisements, posters and packing up and the good organisation through meetings and joint decision making.
This beneficial experience has given me good insight into marketing, sales and running a small business stall.
It taught me to listen and consider other people’s ideas, the importance marketing plays in business success and that organisation and teamwork are needed for a business to run smoothly.
