School tops in fundraising

-

AT the principal’s assembly held on October 26, Jenny Coates and Emma Wilson, representing the Cancer Council of Queensland, presented the Saints Daffodil Week fundraising coordinator, Kastelle Gane, with a special limited-edition Dougal Bear in acknowledgment of raising the plaque placed in the Marilyn Mayo Lodge on Mulgrave Rd in acknowledgment of the enormous efforts and contributions of the Saints community.

Daffodil Week is testament to the family spirit of the Marist vlues that underpin everything we do here at Saints especially for the benefit of others. ON October 18, Regis Aged Care and St Andrew’s Catholic College, Redlynch, joined together to celebrate the official opening of the school’s new cultural diversity totem poles.

The project began at the beginning of the year when residents from Regis Aged Care visited St Andrew’s Year 10 and 11 practical art classes to learn skills in pottery.

Both residents and students worked together over two terms to produce a series of ceramic totems with each sphere symbolising the multicultural heritage of many residents at Regis.

Visual art teacher Jess Duffy said it was “a real pleasure to work with Regis and to see the joy on the residents’ faces as they created an artwork with meaning”.

“We strongly value our partnership with Regis and hope to generate more community art projects in the future,” she said.

Year 10 student Brianna Pieri described “a wonderful experience working with Regis Aged Care and creating a piece of artwork that displays cultural diversity”.

Another student, Kira Latham, from Year 11, said it was an honour to work with the “beautiful Regis residents”. “It was fun to explore and create sculptures ...”

Her classmate Leia Almond added: “Our strong community partnership is now connected through the symbol of totems.”
