Victory at last as Melbourne breaks streak

-

IT’S taken seven rounds of the season for the Victory to finally snare a win with a convincing 2-0 display against the Glory.

With a host of players out through injury for the home side it was the perfect opportunity for Kevin Muscat’s men to get their campaign on track.

Star striker Berisha broke the deadlock with a shot from close range after a fantastic cross with Zenon Caravella from Austin who will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL. Another was added by Leroy George who has been an outstanding contributor.

Meanwhile, do you think Tim Cahill is playing mind games?

It was only hours after the Socceroos qualified that Cahill said “I need game time” – a comment that set tongues wagging as to what his intentions are leading up to the World Cup. City’s new manger Warren Joyce is no stranger to big players making big demands. Rumours are that their relationship is at breaking point. Without a win in the last three a matches and a host of stars not seeing much game time, Joyce has his work cut out keeping it under control.

Still on Socceroos, coach Ange Postecoglou has gone from being someone who revolutionised aspects of the Australian game to someone who polarises the sporting public.

With making sure we qualify for the event comes arguably the highest pressure job in Australian sport. The criticism he got would be enough to destroy the most seasoned coaches. Perhaps the most impressive thing was throughout the arduous 22-month campaign, he never changed his ways, showing belief and resilience. In my eyes he has left a legacy.
