Daintree spot on bucket list
THE idyllic Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa has been named one of Trivago’s list of the hotels to try before you die.
In the 20 best bucket list hotels worth visiting the Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa ranked number 16, coming in above New South Wales’ Paperbark Camp Glamping.
Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said it was welldeserved recognition for the environmentally friendly resort.
“Being recognised by an international company raises the profile of the Daintree,” she said. “The beauty of the Daintree is of global significance and it is so accessible to international tourists.
“Getting out to the Daintree is the highest priority to our international visitors.”
Ms Bennett said the Daintree, which is three times older than the Amazon, was a widely sought destination for peace and quiet.
“It’s the ultimate getaway from real life,” she said.
“There’s no digital access, so that makes for the perfect place to recharge and reconnect with nature.”
She said she hoped this international recognition would not only bring more visitors from overseas but also entice Australians back into the world’s oldest rainforest.
“The domestic market has lost touch of the beauty in this destination. The Daintree and all its offerings should be recognised more by locals,” she said.
Sarah Nicholas, who stayed at the lodge earlier this year, described the getaway as “your home whilst in the Daintree” in a review.
“What an amazing secluded eco friendly resort to stay at while in the Daintree. You are right among the rainforest and can hear the nearby waterfall from your bed,” she said.
The hotel is renown for its Julaymba Restaurant, which serves local seasonal food, as well as for its rainforest surroundings and private waterfall.
