INDIGENOUS artist Elverina Johnson will be seeing her artistic vision draped across heads and shoulders around the Far North with her new Mainie collection.

The NAIDOC Artist of the Year teamed up with Mainie creative director Charmaine Saunders to create a line of Yarrabah-inspired scarf designs.

Ms Saunders said it was an honour to work with an artist that was so widely recognised by every corner of the Far Northern Community.

“Elverina is a very talented artist, whose exquisite reef and rainforest designs are known and loved around the world as a distinctively Aboriginal Australian art-fashion fusion,” she said.

“European royals such as Princess Mary of Denmark and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands are owners of Elverina’s designs.”

Ms Johnson will make an appearance at Mainie at Cairns Central on Saturday to talk about her art and her design collaboration with Ms Saunders.

Ms Saunders said it was a chance for Ms Johnson’s fans to talk to the renowned artist.

“Our customers love the beautiful, natural colours and the vivid depictions of her Gunggandji ancestors’ traditional stories that Elverina captures in her designs,” Ms Saunders said.

Ms Johnson will be at Cairns Central from 11am to 1pm this Saturday.
