Bowlers jet off

CAIRNS tenpin bowlers Alannah Woodfield, Ivy Dickinson and Chantelle Becker-Mills are in Malaysia this week taking part in the Internatio­nal Junior All-Stars Championsh­ip.

The trio are part of a group of eight players representi­ng Tenpin Bowling Australia Queensland as part of the organisati­on’s 2017 developmen­t program.

Woodfield, a 16-year-old lefthander from Mount Sheridan, is the youngest member of the team and went into the tournament with an impressive 180 average.

Dickinson, from Edmonton, has a 181 average and was selected as an All-Star at the 2017 Junior Nationals.

Becker-Mills, from White Rock, was on the All-Star team at the North Queensland Adult Intercity titles and averages 177. All three were members of the champion North Queensland President’s Shield team of 2016 and 2017.

Creed leads pack

MAREEBA greyhound Creed picked up the extra prizemoney at Cannon Park on Friday night in the Cairns RQ Maiden Final.

The final of the race, worth $1530 compared to $441 for the other races on the night, was collected by trainer John La Rosa and Creed.

“We are very happy with the dog,” La Rosa said.

“From his times racing before, we gave him a few weeks off with a sore shoulder, but he has come back strong.”

Greyhound racing continues at Cannon Park this Friday night.

Cairns FC signings

CAIRNS FC will look to local talent to get them on the score sheet in 2018 with the club to announce the signings of Innisfail striker Josh Taylor and skipper Jamie Carroll today.

The pair are the first to join new coach Danny Graystone’s squad. Taylor, a former FNQ Golden Boot winner who captaincoa­ched Innisfail United this season, was regarded one of the most dangerous players in the 2017 FNQ Football competitio­n.
