FITNESS gurus and families can now take advantage of Cairns’ newest walking trail.

The 2.4km Yellow Arrow circuit is officially open, as are the upgraded Red Arrow trail and Bayview Heights’ Ivan Evans track.

The Yellow Arrow’s Aeroglen trail head features 54 carparks, a new toilet block and picnic shelter.

Aeroglen resident Bart Duraj said the new circuit would be great for locals.

“It’s excellent having such a great network of walking trails so close to the centre of town,” Mr Duraj said.

“The Red Arrow is quite short and well-trodden – and the Blue Arrow is a bit long – but this new one is a nice in-between.

“The views are spectacular as well.”

Living just a few hundred metres from the trail head, the father of two said he hoped to complete the Yellow Arrow “at least once a week”.

Beginning near the Aeroglen touch football fields, the Yellow Arrow connects the Red and Blue Arrow trails.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said the Christmas break was the “perfect time to explore the arrow trails”.

“More than 800 people walk, jog or even run the Red Arrow trail each day,” he said.

“The Yellow Arrow provides a great alternative route and I have no doubt it will become just as popular.”

“And with New Year’s resolutions just around the corner, there’s no better time to consider getting active.”

New steps and bitumen have been installed along the popular Red Arrow, while the Ivan Evans trail is now open after a redesign.
