Forward focus is vital now for Crows

- ROB GREENWOOD

ADELAIDE is refusing to dwell on past glories as it steps up preparations for its AFLW premiership defence.

The full Crows list came together for a two-day training camp on the weekend, culminating in an internal trial match at Football Park yesterday.

Coach Bec Goddard was impressed by the fitness levels and hunger of the 38 players, which included nine new additions to last year’s champion squad. The premiership-winning coach said building on the inaugural success, not reliving it, was her side’s focus.

“What we achieved last year was great, it was amazing, but we really want to look forward now and not back,” Goddard said.

“We’re really respectful of where other teams are going to be at (and) we know that we are the hunted. We want to do the ordinary things extraordinarily well.”

Off-season recruits on show included former Adelaide United soccer players Marijana Rajcic and Ruth Wallace, as well as Olympic beach volleyballer Becchara Palmer.

First-round Draft pick Jessica Allan (Salisbury) and second-round selection Eloise Jones (Morphettville Park) also linked up with their new teammates.

The Crows will train for another fortnight before having a Christmas break and returning to the track on January 8.

They head to Darwin for a practice match against Fremantle the following week, ahead of their season-opener versus Brisbane Lions at Norwood Oval on February 3.
