EMERGING guard Mitch McCarron believes Aaron Fearne has found a happy medium between compliments and criticism as he recorded his 250th game as a coach in the NBL.

Now in his second season with the club, McCarron revealed after the win on Saturday night the nine-year Cairns coach has found an improved balance so far in season 2017-18.

“I really enjoy it (working with Fearne),” McCarron said.

“If I am not right on any given day, I am going to hear about it, but that makes me a better player.

“Something where I think Fearney has really grown is complimenting guys over the years, he has worked really hard on that this year.

“I think he has found a good balance and the guys are enjoying it this year.”

Across the 250 games, Fearne has coached 125 wins and 125 losses and reflected on his career after notching up a victory in the milestone game.

“(I’ve) matured a lot, learnt a lot. Learnt a lot from mistakes and success,” he said.

“Have I mellowed some? I don’t know, probably not.

“I mean I still think I’m fairly demanding and aggressive.

“It has been a tough nine years just from a club point of view.

“Just competing every year, providing players and a lot of people do a lot of hard work.

“There are a lot of people that work towards success, it is not about me.

“It has been fun, I love doing it.

“I just want to see people be successful and be as good as they can be.”
