STATE POLITICS Deb sets out plan for LNP
NEW LNP leader Deb Frecklington says she realises Queenslanders have never regained the faith they lost in the party during the Newman government as she vows to build back that trust.
And she has left open the option of ripping up the policies taken to the people at last month’s poll, noting Queenslanders had rejected the LNP in two consecutive elections.
The party’s first female boss yesterday beat out former leader John-Paul Langbroek and ultraconservative backbencher Mark Robinson in a leadership tussle to take the reins from Tim Nicholls.
The Nanango MP and former small business owner was elected on a joint ticket with ex-Newman minister Tim Mander, who easily fended off his only rival for the deputy’s position, Whitsunday MP Jason Costigan.
Ms Frecklington said the party recognised it had a big job ahead to win back voters who had rejected them in 2015 and 2017.
“As the new leadership team in Queensland, we have pressed the reset button,” she said. “But we are under no illusions of the hard work that we will have to do to rebuild the faith of Queenslanders.”
Asked whether she would now press reset on party policies, Ms Frecklington said: “Queenslanders have spoken.”
Her message to Ms Palaszczuk was: “It is game on.”
“I can assure Queenslanders that with me, what you see is what you get,” she said.
