Chance to bag easy cash for heartfelt presents

-

THE pressure is on. There is less than two weeks until Christmas and if you were a crammer back in high school when it was exam time, you’re probably the same when it comes to buying gifts this time of year.

So for the unorganised and the time-poor, here are a few last-minute gift ideas.

Grandma: Framed family photo, kitchen appliances, something handmade or jewellery.

Grandad: Some crystal whiskey glasses are likely to impress if he is that way inclined, or something to store spirits in, sports merch.

Mum: Jewellery, day spa voucher, new watch or painting for the dining room wall.

Dad: Fishing gear, sporting merch, wallet or some funky boat shoes so he stops wearing those worn-out old loafers.

Son: Wireless Dr Dre headphones, skateboard, jet pack ride or paintball skirmish voucher.

Daughter: Blow-up swan for the pool, make-up brush kit, bluetooth speakers.

Now it’s up to you … get shopping! To be in the running for $1000 cash head to www.cairnspost.com.au/ competitions. The winners will be drawn on Monday, December 18. THE Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service is continuing to have problems with legionella, with more of the dangerous bacteria found in its health facilities.

Low levels of legionella were detected at the Community Wellness Centre at Thursday Island Hospital, and at Cooktown Multipurpose Health Service.

It’s the second time in just over a month that the bacteria has been detected in one of the health service’s facilities, following a positive identification at Bamaga Hospital.

Torres and Cape HHS director Andy Marshall said affected areas had been closed off to allow for system flushing and cleaning.

He said the Torres and Cape HHS undertook routine water quality testing at all its inpatient facilities every three months.

“Legionella bacteria occur naturally and are widely distributed in the environment,” he said.

“As a result, legionella bacteria are likely to be detected in a health facility’s water quality testing samples from time to time.”
