Regarding the 90-year-old man bashed in his own home in Childers (Courier Mail, 18/17). 90-year-olds should be safe in their own home and society should protect them. In fact we all should be safe, even with the doors unlocked. We need to lock up criminals and put society first. No more excuses. If the jails get too full, use the criminals to build more jails. Joanne, Mt Sheridan Another weekend, another farcical round of A-League soccer, all due to VAR and its use in the game. The trial has failed, get rid of it and let the referees do their job. VAR was there to get rid of the howlers to improve the game, not to be used constantly and kill our love of football. Football fan, FNQ Re: Jackie Trad’s “Robin Hood” tax-raising increase to repay debt. How about some more efficiencies in your public service and their fringe benefits. There seems to be thousands of vehicles for departments and funded-affiliated projects all used for perks paid by taxpayers. Cut the waste. Brian, Kuranda The CEO of the Cairns Taipans has to ask himself: is Aaron Fearne still the right choice to be head coach? Getting beaten by last place Sydney Kings? Taipans member, Cairns Claim: “More green energy will lower power prices” (CP, 18/12). That’s never happened anywhere in the world. Don’t hold your breath waiting for it to happen here. Mic, Cairns Wait, what? “Alcosynth” (CP, 18/12)? So a brand new mind-altering drug will be approved by nanny-states everywhere? Bwahahahaha. Scott, Gordonvale Leonard Cohen was sent by God and Mother Nature to create world peace. Our world leaders do nothing to heed his advise. Hallelujah. Rex, Edmonton If Jerusalem was a native title claim, which basically it is, who would win in a court of law and be named the first peoples, and thus be awarded traditional ownership - the Jews, Christians or the Muslims? David, Woree No wonder our health system is stuffed. We were going to pay a doctor $400,000 a year who failed to safeguard patients’ wellbeing (CP, 18/17). We have awesome doctors and nurses here at the Cairns Hospital who could do this job perfectly, keeping their wages here in the north and supporting their families. Our government needs to pull their heads out and sort this fiasco out immediately. Come on Cairns, support our local doctors and nurses. Shane, Caravonica
