On welfare system

-

Well, Lindsay Ross (letters 19/12), we were employers with motels and holiday properties. We are no longer in business as we couldn’t find staff. Backpackers were the only ones willing to work. We had no age or gender issues. Aussies would arrive with a paper to sign for Centrelink. We refused to sign it. They would be untidy, often barefooted or wearing thongs and obviously told to apply for jobs they had no intention of doing. We gave up after 25 years. Try being an employer looking for good, permanent, staff willing to do an honest day’s work. Sue, Edge Hill Lindsay Ross. As someone who has worked, volunteered and paid taxes, I am indeed a very charitable person. Many taxpayers also volunteer. To imply otherwise is disingenuous. They also pay their own way, they pay the way for those who cannot and they pay the way for many generations of bludgers who can’t be bothered. And regarding social justice ... don’t forget, the taxpayer needs justice too. Joanne, Mt Sheridan It’s the Greens’ idea of “social justice”, that’s the problem, Lindsay Ross (letters, 19/12). We used to call it “communism” and we fought it vigorously. Higgs, Tolga get off. Why not stop out to sea and use the substantial facilities you already have. Cairns is closed. Bill, Whitfield Re: Sealing the Bloomfield Track. Bear in mind there are minimum alignment and width requirements for sealed roads. The clearing alone would be more than twice as wide as it is now. Forget it. Shouldn’t have been built in the first place. Greg, Kanimbla No, Miss T, Tolga (19/12) not “appealing to authority fallacy” on climate change. Just using the facts and scientific evidence, much better than burying your head in the sand and repeating “all the experts are wrong except me”. Maggie, Kanimbla Heights Batty people, croccy people. Is Australia overburdened by magnaminity? Iwannabsafgi, Earlville If the government truly wanted to stop the ice epidemic they would stop classing it as a drug and call it what it is, a poison. Dealing it would be attempted murder, no less. Have some guts and do the right thing. David, Woree Exactly right, Brian, Kuranda (19/12). Labor cut unemployment by packing the public sector. The state would run more efficiently if the public sector was cut by half. Woz, Parramatta Park Trump has removed global warming from the US’s list of national security threats. Taking away the money is the best way to kill off climate alarmism. Miss T, Tolga Queensland Government. If you keep letting the world think the Reef is dead or dying you will never get anyone to come here. Robbo, Gordonvale Queensland power cheaper next year, good news for southeast, not so in the North, I fear, since no choice of suppliers. JK, Yorkeys Knob
