Looking great at Goodeye

- HAYDEN SMITH

A NEW optical store in the ever-growing Redlynch region has enjoyed a sunny start to business.

Goodeye Optical is now in operation at Redlynch Central, offering a wide range of sunglasses and spectacles.

Team member Travis Clark, who has worked in the optical trade for a decade, liked what he saw after the first couple of weeks.

“Because we’re in Redlynch, we tend to service locals rather than tourists,” he said.

“I’ve been involved in other optometrists that have been nowhere near as busy. I guess location is everything.”

Owned by local Daesong Yang, the store is open from Monday to Saturday.

Mr Clark said Goodeye Optical was one of the few independent eyewear stores in Australia to have a contract with high-end glasses frames provider Tiffany & Co.

“We’ve tried to aim for getting frames in that can’t be found anywhere else in Cairns,” he said.

“Things that are a little bit different and unusual.”

An optometrist is expected to join the new business on a permanent part-time basis after Christmas.

Mr Clark said the genuine happiness enjoyed by customers was the most rewarding part of the optical trade.

“You do other retail jobs where the customers are either rather ho-hum about the product or just plain angry,” he said.

“But with glasses you can actually deliver life-changing moments for people.”
