THE people of the Far North have taken part in some of the wildest beauty crazes during the last 12 months.

We’ve bought into everything from unicorn hair colours to highlighting our noses, foreheads, cheeks, shoulders, collarbones and shins.

Now we’re in for a whole new cycle of trends and local beauty experts are calling them early.

The Hair Studio hair stylist Michael Medeiros recommended embracing what your mum gave you.

“I think the silver hair trends and bright pastel fads of 2017 are definitely on their way out,” he said.

“The new 2018 trends are more natural blondes and ashy tones.

“The biggest trend to rock 2018 will be embracing natural or creating a bouncy, textured curl. Believe it or not perms are slowly on the rise – not the classic horrid ’80s perm but a bigger, looser wave.

“It’ll be the year of beach babe hair.”

Hair might be taking a turn for a casual, relaxed look, but makeup is going to be fullglam.

Cairns makeup artist Sarah Holmes said it was time to embrace the three Gs: glossy, graphic and glitter.

“The glossy look has been hitting the catwalk in New York fashion week and it’s everywhere,” she said.

“There are glossy lids right up to the brow bone. Don’t forget those glossy lips – choose your favourite tone and then saturate it in your favourite clear gloss.

“The cat eye flick is taking its next evolutionary step in style for 2018.

Think ’60s mod-style, round, edged-off wing liner.

“It’s as simple as taking your old-school sponge applicator and stamping the edge of your lash line to create this whole new look.”

She said 2018 would have everyone wondering just how long glitter can stick to your skin, your hair, your clothes and all your makeup brushes.

“Glitter will have gone super-size in 2018 if the runways are any indication,” she said.

“Rhinestones, gems and sequins are the new way to wear the sparkly stuff, adhered on your eyelids and around your eyes using lash glue.

“It takes a little patience, but the statement-making payoff is worth it.”

THE BIGGEST TREND TO ROCK 2018 WILL BE EMBRACING NATURAL OR CREATING A BOUNCY, TEXTURED CURL. BELIEVE IT OR NOT PERMS ARE SLOWLY ON THE RISE — NOT THE CLASSIC HORRID ’80S PERM BUT A BIGGER, LOOSER WAVE MICHAEL MEDEIROS
