ANGE Postecoglou’s manager believes the Socceroos coach took the team as far as he could and made the right call to vacate the role for Russia 2018.

London-based Australian Frank Trimboli also declared Postecoglou had the ingredients to coach a big Premier League club.

Postecoglou departs for Europe this week, where he will spend several days observing Manchester City guru Pep Guardiola before moving to Japan to assume his post as boss of Yokohama F Marinos.

It is understood Postecoglou was short-listed for two European jobs, but Trimboli said Australian coaches were still viewed with suspicion in that region.

“He’s done the right thing. Because if you feel you’ve done all you can then you need to walk on,’’ Trimboli said. “When you feel your time’s up, you need to step aside and I think that’s how he felt.

“In time to come, people will probably appreciate that more than they do today. When someone doesn’t want to be in that position, you’re there because you force yourself to be there, you’ll never get the result you need to get.

“His mandate was to take (Australia) to the World Cup and he got them to the World Cup. He got that opportunity four years ago and he’s saying someone else should get that opportunity now.

“Football tournaments are an interesting thing, you never know what can happen. Maybe it is the right opportunity for someone else to come in there and take the challenge of it.”

Trimboli’s company is one of the top agencies in the world, managing the likes of Aaron Ramsay (Arsenal), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose (Tottenham).

With a coaching stable that includes Arsene Wenger (Arsenal), Roy Hodgson (former England, now Crystal Palace), Vincenzo Montella (Seville) and Luciano Spalletti (Inter Milan), Trimboli understands what European clubs are after.

“I wouldn’t be working with him (Postecoglou) unless that (having the potential to crack Europe) was the case,’’ he said.

How far can the former Socceroos boss go?

“If he does a good job at a Championship side or a smaller Premier League side, why can’t he go all the way?

“His attention to detail is unbelievable. He’s bright enough, he’s diligent enough. He needs to become a bit more experienced European-wise, but he’ll get that. He’s European as well as being Australian, so he understands that.”

HE’S DONE THE RIGHT THING. BECAUSE IF YOU FEEL YOU’VE DONE ALL YOU CAN THEN YOU NEED TO WALK ON. WHEN YOU FEEL YOUR TIME’S UP, YOU NEED TO STEP ASIDE..
