DO NOT be surprised if the Wadley clan return to Atherton in the new year with a swag of medals from the 2018 Oceania and Australian Laser Championships.

The Wadley family, consisting of coach Roger and children Kristen, Travis and Breanne, are all in Brisbane this week taking on the best of the best from Wednesday until January 4.

Kristen, who won five Girls’ World Championships in the Open BIC class before graduating to sailing Lasers a year ago, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Australian sailing and will lead the Wadley charge this week.

“It is a busy time, very full on,” Roger Wadley said. “Kristen is the hot favourite to take out the Laser, she has won a number of state titles already.

“Travis will be racing in the Open BIC national titles after racing in the world titles in France last year so I would say he is a very good chance. Breanne, Kristen and Travis.

“Breanne is hopeful doing good things as well.

“They love it so much, there is no issue with training, they enjoy getting out there and competing.”

Kristen was named Queensland Junior Sports Star of 2016 and finished 10th from a fleet of 115 internationals at the 2017 Youth World Championships in Belgium in July. She took out the Women’s Australian Championship in Adelaide earlier in the year.

Travis emulated Kristen’s success in the World BIC class, winning the under-13 title in France in 2016, while Breanne was seventh at this year’s World Championship. of
