US President Donald Trump has responded to speculation Oprah Winfrey (right) could run against him in 2020, saying it “would be a lot of fun” – but that he would definitely win.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Mr Trump was asked what he thought of an Oprah presidential bid.
“I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah will be lots of fun,” he said.
“I did one of her last (television) shows … I like Oprah.”
But Mr Trump didn’t seem convinced the media titan would even try for the White House after her rousing speech at the Golden Globes electrified the country: “I don’t think she’s going to run.”
It came as Oprah’s close friend Gayle King spoke about the likelihood of a 2020 run, saying the former talk show queen was “intrigued” by the idea.
“She loves this country and would love to be of service in some way,” Ms King said.
Meanwhile, Steve Bannon has stepped down as executive chairman of Breitbart News after furore over comments he made in Michael Wolff’s bombshell Trump book.
The former White House chief strategist was reportedly forced out after questioning the President’s mental health and labelling Donald Trump Jr “treasonous”.
