NEVER seen before footage of coral, airing soon on TV in Sir David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II, was produced at Port Douglas.

Innovative media company BioQuest Studios has produced images and videos for the BBC, National Geographic and presented its short film Illuminations to the EU and the UN.

BioQuest Studios has a long list of credits and has travelled to Taiwan, Japan and Paris (and partnered with Tara Expeditions) to share its work.

Technical director Pete West said the goal was to enlighten the public as to what was happening to coral reefs around the world.

“Everywhere we go people are just dumbfounded. There are very few people doing what we do,” he said.

“We reveal the beauty of the hidden world out there by using the skills we have.

“We want to encourage people to take a closer look and realise it’s not just coral we could be losing.”

It’s the International Year of the Reef and Mr West revealed BioQuest is planning to locally produce its own major film before the end of the year to commemorate the event.

Computers, cameras, equipment and software are developed in-house by Mr West and creative director Daniel Stoupin.

“With what we develop we’ve managed to capture a lot more detail than with conventional cameras off the shelf,” Mr Stoupin said.

BioQuest will soon head to Cuba to shoot footage for a 3D IMAX film.
