SMOOTH OPERATORS: WHY BRAZILIAN WAXING IS A GROWING TREND

Brazilian wax the top trend

EVERY woman you know has probably had one, but it is not often talked about.

Brazilian waxing is a silent but gathering trend among Cairns beauty clients that business owners do not believe is going away anytime soon.

Honey Tan and Wax owner Donna Finlayson said Brazilian waxes were “hugely popular” and almost 95 per cent of her waxing clients came in for that specific treatment.

“Brazilian waxing is very popular now for all ages. Standard bikini waxes tend to be a thing of the past. It’s more comfortable to be totally hair free for many people, particularly with the heat and humidity of the tropics,” she said.

“A lot of people think it’s a cleaner feel also. It is definitely our most popular waxing service.”

Miss Molly’s Beauty Spot has been open for 15 months and owner Holly Alifraco said half of her waxing clients would come in to get their pubic hair removed, either by wax or laser.

“We definitely don’t do many bikini waxes these days, everything is Brazilian,” she said.

“And a Brazilian doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all gone. Sometimes we get older ladies coming in and they say they want a bikini wax but it ends up a high g-string wax. It’s basically a Brazilian, they just don’t know what to call it.

“Times are definitely changing. Women below 25 would have everything gone these day.”

Ms Alifraco said while the first brazilian wax could be traumatic, it was important to return for future appointments.

“My advice is come back a second time, nothing will be as bad as the first time. The more you do, the better it is,” she said. “I can do a Brazilian in 10 minutes and it takes two different waxes to get that done.”
