Construction nails No.1 on list of top jobs for 2018

FKG area manager Daniel Suchanek has spent several years working on Cairns construction projects and has seen more demand for tradies in the city in the past 12 months than he has in the past five years.

His observations back what industry experts say will be a year of even bigger demand for construction and trade jobs in the Far North.

Mr Suchanek (right) said the Cairns Performing Arts Centre project, which he is currently in charge of, was one of the first where he had inducted 800 people, representing 800 jobs, onto the construction site.

“You can drive around and see lots of smaller-to-medium projects that just weren’t around three years ago,” he said.

“We are not looking for anyone at the moment but I think skilled tradespeople are most in demand.”
