That’s one slippery ride

A NEW South Wales coast delivery man found himself carrying more than he’d counted on when he set out on his rounds with a slithery stowaway this week.

Ted Ogier was returning to Pambula after doing a run to Eden when a 2.5m, red-bellied black snake made its way out of his engine bay, on to the bonnet of his ute, then slithered across the windscreen and wrapped itself around the side mirror.

“It was sort of tapping on the window a couple of times, because it obviously wanted to get in,” Mr Ogier told ABC radio.

He pulled over near Pambula and called his Nolan’s Auto Parts boss Kai Pearse to come and help him deal with the deadly hitchhiker.

Luckily there was a happy ending for everyone involved.

“I just had a broom in the back of the ute and … basically he just got him off the car nice and safely, and ushered him off into the bushland on the side of the road,” Mr Ogier said. Nolans Auto Parts and Industrial Supplies has shared pictures of the encounter on its Facebook page.

Horrified punters also weighed in with similar comments with some saying they would abandon the car and set it on fire if it happened to them.

“Burn the car, quit ya job and leave the country,” one person said.

“Yeah, nah, I’d set the car on fire,” another wrote.

“Legit abandoning my ute if this happens,” one punter claimed.
