Failed strip club entry lands man on charges

-

A MAN has been charged after allegedly attacking a bouncer with a bollard after being denied entry to a Cairns strip club for being too drunk.

The 35-year-old Redlynch man allegedly tried to get into Cover Girls on Lake St early yesterday morning but was refused, so he became aggressive and tried to pick up a bollard.

Police said a security guard tried to stop him picking it up but was allegedly punched in the jaw before being hit over the shoulder with the bollard.

The security officer was able to control the bollard but was allegedly punched in the back of the head.

The man left but was located by police on the corner of Abbott and Shields streets, arrested and taken to Cairns watchhouse.

He has been charged with common assault in a public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance; commit public nuisance and assault or obstruct police officer, and will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on January 29.
