Rescue for snorkellers
FAR Northern surf lifesavers rescued four tourists at Green Island.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman said a Chinese woman, who was a first-time snorkeller, had “got into a bit of trouble” yesterday.
The 37-year-old had been snorkelling between the flags when lifesavers spotted her and brought her back to shore.
A 46-year-old man and his two teenage sons were also helped back to shore.
The Indian family had been snorkelling about 50m from shore just outside the flags.
The spokesman said the boys began struggling and their father had gone to help when he also began struggling.
“They had swallowed a little bit of water but they were OK,” the spokesman said.
“The key message for anyone going to the island is to … stay between the flags.”
