Festival beds needed

-

MISSION Beach residents have been asked to open their homes and campgrounds to a bevy of performers set to descend on the town in three weeks.

The inaugural Tropic Sounds music festival will be held at Castaways Resort on February 3 and organiser and musician Tee Ketu wants the community to help accommodate about 30 event volunteers.

She said the team would travel from Cairns, Port Douglas and Townsville for the event.

“We are looking for absolutely any type of accommodation, big or small,” she said.

“If any business or anyone from the community can provide us with a couch, a lawn, a room or anything at all please let us know.”

Ms Ketu said those offering the volunteers somewhere to sleep would receive free entry to the festival and go in the draw to win one of dozens of donated prizes.

The festival’s official line-up was released this week and features The Geckos, Kim Helen, Sam Figalo, Miss Tee and The Reefs, The Doowatz, The Lovehandles, The Wayward Franklins, Tropic Roots and Daigo Kwik Band.

All artists will perform for free with all money raised from gate entry and a raffle going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Ms Ketu said there were only a few early bird tickets left. “I have already sold tickets. I love Mission Beach. I have been coming here for the last five years with my music and they’ve looked after me every time. It keeps me coming back,” she said.

“It’s happening very easily and everyone wants to get behind it, it is something that is bigger than me.”

Mission Beach Community Association secretary Truus Biddlecombe-Sanders and Mission Beach Tourism manager Evelyn Swarbrick were elated with the idea for a new festival.

Entry is by gold coin donation and children are free. The event is family-friendly.

It begins at 11am with an after-party to be held at The Shrub.
