Brilliant Brix gives United vengeance

NEWFOUND confidence from Bobby Brix has given United breathing space from the foot of the ladder but not without a spirited fight from Barron’s young brigade.

Brix (89) and Linden March (56) punished the slippery hands of their rivals to reach 4-232 on a batting paradise at Crathern Park on Saturday to set up the victory. Barron refused to drop their heads as teenagers Adam Trewin (48) and Harry Gardner (41) combined for a 70-run fourthwicket stand, but the chase proved 33 too much.

Brix said it was satisfying for United to show their potential and kick a losing habit against Barron this season.

“It was definitely a game we wanted to win and we had that positive mindset,” he said.

The 35-year-old said his knock was evidence of the benefits of working with coach James How through the year, mostly to help him believe in himself.

Barron skipper Jordan Fulton said his side “dropped more catches than we had all year”, which proved the difference between giving up 232 against a gettable 200.

At the other end of the ladder, Atherton ended Mulgrave’s five-match streak at Loder Park.

Justin Reid posted another half-century to get the Toads to 7-154 and another tight opening spell had them on the front foot.

But a 79-run partnership between Paul Nasser (48no) and Tom Boorman (28) ensured attendees of the club’s 30-year reunion went home happy, helping Atherton win with 28 balls to spare. winning
