Trainer thinks ahead

- NATHAN EXELBY

MATT Dunn is giving consideration to a southern campaign for Magic Millions Cup winner Care To Think, but said yesterday he was leaning more towards stopping and aiming at June’s Stradbroke.

Dunn said he would monitor the four-year-old for a few days because he “felt it a bit” after his big win at the weekend.

“I think he’s probably a Stradbroke horse to be honest,” Dunn said.

“I don’t know if he’d cope with travelling (to Sydney or Melbourne) and then holding him over to the winter. I will discuss it with the owners but at this stage I will probably stop.”

Dunn said Care To Think had always been “a bit fragile” and that this was the first preparation he had been able to fully test him. He admitted he was surprised to see Care To Think settle as close as he did on Saturday and was thrilled to see the way he adapted.

“He’s almost the complete package,” he said. “He’s pretty exciting, that’s for sure.”

Dunn said he walked away with five or six horses from the main session of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale and there were some shrewd buys during the week if you shopped hard enough.

“If you stick around long enough and if you’ve got a good bloodstock agent like Neil Jenkinson on your side, you can find the right horse at the right money,” he said.

Care To Think has certainly turned out to be the right horse at the right money, with Jenkinson securing him for a meagre $16,000.
