Wahlberg donates $1.5m
AFTER UPROAR OVER HIS CO-STAR’S $A1262 PAYMENT, MARK WALBERG GIVES HIS $A1.9M TO CHARITY
Mark Wahlberg has agreed to donate the $1.5 million he made for the reshoots on All The Money In The World to the Time’s Up sexual misconduct defence initiative.
MARK Wahlberg will donate the $US1.5 million ($A1.9 million) he made for the reshoots on All The Money in the World to the Time’s Up sexual misconduct defence initiative.
Wahlberg will donate the money in the name of his costar Michelle Williams, who was reportedly paid less than $US1000 for the same reshoots on the movie.
Wahlberg said: “Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All the Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation.
“I 100 per cent support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’s name.”
The reshoots took place due to a last-minute replacement of Kevin Spacey.
The announcement came after directors and stars, including Jessica Chastain and Judd Apatow, shared their shock at reports of the huge pay disparity for the Ridley Scott film.
Both Williams and co-star Charlie Plummer were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances.
Talent agency William Morris Endeavor, which represents both Williams and Wahlberg, said it will donate an additional $US500,000 ($A700,000) to Time’s Up.
The agency said in a statement that wage disparity conversations needed to continue and “we are committed to being part of the solution”.
Williams said in a statement that her fellow actresses and activist friends stood by her and “taught me to use my voice, and the most powerful men in charge, they listened and they acted”.
