Lions boss Swann to stay on at Gabba

- GREG DAVIS

THE Brisbane Lions have extended the contract of chief executive Greg Swann, who will remain at the club until the end of 2019.

In a further sign of stability at the Gabba, Swann will extend his tenure to beyond five years after arriving at Brisbane midway through the 2014 season.

New Lions chairman Andrew Wellington said Swann had made a long and lasting impact at the helm.

“I’m very pleased to renew Greg’s contract,” Wellington said.

“Greg’s commitment to Brisbane comes off the back of a number of players re-signing, which demonstrates a show of faith in the club both on and off-field.

“His industry knowledge and networks have been invaluable for the club.

“He plays a key role in providing the leadership we need to be successful.”

Swann – a former CEO at Collingwood and Carlton – is excited about what the future holds.

“I’m excited to continue on the journey for the next two years,” he said.

“We’ve put the building blocks in place for continuous improvement over the next few seasons.”

Brisbane claimed the wooden spoon in 2017 but finished the campaign strongly and were able to lure Hawks legend Luke Hodge and Crows speedster Charlie Cameron to the Gabba during the trade period.

Young guns Hugh McCluggage and Cameron Rayner have also extended their contracts with Brisbane, who have been revitalised under senior coach Chris Fagan and football boss David Noble.
