Bryant proving trainer to beat

- LEE PEARCE

LEADING trainer Emma Bryant looks to have a strong hand in tonight’s Cairns Greyhound Club five-race program at Cannon Park.

The first race of the night is the Pro Skips Maiden/5th Grade over the 410m, with the favourite Libby’s Hero (7) for Bryant (pictured).

Libby’s Hero has won her past two starts in good fashion.

Cape De Belle (1) for Steve Dodd is a youngster having her start on the Cairns track and could be a danger to the favourite.

Arthur’s Stevie (3) for Andrew Wooler won in Townsville on Tuesday night and has had five starts here for a win (24.40) and a third. She will run a bold race. Karma’s Time (6) for John La Rosa ran second last week to One Pump and will be one to watch in the market.

Illy Bale (2) for Rhonda Essery has had three starts here for a win (24.15) and will give this a big shake if she jumps well.

The fourth event of the night is the Suez Recycling and Recovery 4th Grade over the 410m.

There are a few chances in this race. Universal One (1) for Kerry Griffin, who has two starts on the track for a second, has drawn well, has good box manners and will be hard to run down on the bunny.

Top Teller (3) for Bryant is a model of consistency, running another good second last week and has drawn well.

Go Gwan (8) for Essery has had four starts here for two wins (24.37).

He has drawn wide but has good acceleration and will be running on strong.

The last race of the night is the Poiditti Engineering Best 8 over the 410m.

Hara’s Flyer (1) for Bryant has drawn well and will be hard to beat in this small field.

Her biggest danger will come from Temnick (3) for Essery. He loves the track and has had five starts here for four wins.

The first race kicks off at 7pm.

Meanwhile, Townsville trainer Essery had a night to remember after a number of her runners secured spots in the RQ Maiden 1000 final in heats held on Tuesday night at Townsville greyhounds.

Essery began the night with two winners in the maiden heats and three of her other youngsters made the final, to be held next Tuesday night.
