It’s back to school we go

- ALICIA NALLY

RUBY Campbell, seven, from Parramatta Park is all set to start the new year in Grade 2 at St Joseph’s School this morning. Hundreds more Far North children will be going into Prep for the first time or making the big step to high school today. As the school run returns, drivers have been warned to take notice of the 40km/h school zones.

LITTLE Ruby Campbell has a growing rival in her enthusiasm for school.

The seven-year-old’s little sister Indigo, 3, would love to be joining her sibling for the first day of Year 2 at St Joseph’s Primary School but will have to wait a few more years.

Mum Davina Dixon said while her daughter was “a little bit nervous” about the big day today, Ruby was looking forward to seeing her friends again.

“We just did a big grocery shop the other day, and we’re getting back in the habit of school lunches, we’ve got a new school bag,” she said.

“Ruby loves using the iPad and all sorts of apps that go with it at school.”

Ruby also likes swimming and reading and her teachers.

Malanda State School principal Mark Allen cannot wait to get back into the swing of school with plans to write a mindfulness program for the school’s 400 students.

He has also praised the community’s growing confidence in the school.

“The numbers are up which is great. Confidence in the school is up and there are lots of people moving into the area who are particularly interested in education. There is a really nice energy.

“This year we are also going to continue to focus on working with the community.”

The school will also educate three sets of twins, a set in Year 4 and two in Prep.
