PM pauses for selfies in political pub session

PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull observed a moment’s silence for late-Far North business identity Bob Norman during an invite-only politics-inthe-pub session in Cairns.

The Cairns Post was the only media outlet on the guest list for the Advance Cairns-sponsored event hosted by Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch.

About 100 representatives from a cross-section of industry attended the session.

The Prime Minister’s trademark penchant for “selfies” was in full flight at the ShangriLa’s North Bar and Kitchen yesterday afternoon, snapping hundreds of shots before addressing the crowd, without a microphone, after the moment of silent respect.

Mr Turnbull energetically summed up the Federal Government’s achievements of last year – chiefly jobs and free trade – and touched on the elephant in the room.

“It is actually characterbuilding as prime minister when senior ministers wander into your office and tell you they’re citizens of another country,” he said.

“The problems in that regard are Labor’s problems now, not ours.”

Mr Turnbull promised the public would not be subjected to another overly long campaign before the next national vote.

“There will not be another eight-week election campaign, I can guarantee that,” he said.
