Sixers too strong for Perth in WBBL win
THE Sydney Sixers have confirmed their position as the most dominant team in WBBL history with an emphatic ninewicket win over Perth Scorchers in Adelaide.
They applied the pressure early, restricting Perth’s scoring, then made quick work of the 100 needed for victory with a classy batting performance.
The Sixers lost just the one wicket as they kept the runs flowing with 14 boundaries to have the match wrapped by the end of the 15th over.
Even though the Sixers boast the Big Bash’s top runscorer in Ellyse Perry and the likes of Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner, it was their bowlers who did the damage.
Sarah Coyte (above) had the first breakthrough when the dangerous Elyse Villani was stumped on just 16. The rot set in from there. Having won the toss and elected to bat, it may have been a decision Villani quickly regretted.
From Villani’s departure, the Scorchers lost a wicket the next three overs to be at 4/42 midway through the innings.
“It was probably the best toss we’ve lost all year and we got the better of the conditions but the bowlers did an outstanding job and we got them quite comfortably in the end,” Sixers opener Healy said.
Two more wickets to Coyte in the 15th over had Perth at 6/66 and Coyte on her way to figures of 3/17 and the player of the match title.
The Sixers’ batting scoreboard couldn’t have looked more different. Healy led the charge with 41 off 32, including five fours and a six.
When Healy departed in the 11th over, Perry (36) and Gardner (22) took over and steered the side to victory by the last ball of the 15th over.
