Bad rep? Stacey reckons crocs rock

- ALICIA NALLY

A LIFELONG obsession with reptiles means there was never any doubt Crocodile Dundee would be on the list of Stacey Denovan’s top movies.

The Cairns Zoom wildlife supervisor said that while the first film in the trilogy was her favourite, anything to do with crocodiles would keep her entertained.

“I’ve always loved reptiles and crocodiles were one of my favourite,” Ms Denovan said.

“It would be great to have another Crocodile Dundee film, especially if it was filmed in Far North Queensland.

“Here at Cairns Zoom it is always a good opportunity to educate the public about the importance of respecting crocodiles.”

A former wildlife keeper at Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Ms Denovan joined Cairns Zoom in the CBD three months ago and said working with reptiles meant she always had to be on her toes.

“As much as you get to know the animals, there is no room for complacency,” she said.

“Crocodiles are very curious creatures.

“They are very happy to be checking everything out.

“They are very misunderstood.

“We fear them a lot more than me should.”

She said crocodile attacks on humans were usually opportunistic and not intentional.

“They’re not interested in hunting us,” she said.
