On other matters

CJ Bruton will be the next head coach of the Cairns Taipans. What a great choice from the Taipans HQ. Taipans member, Cairns I looked at the four-day weather chart forecast on Thursday and looked again on Saturday. It was so different for the next two days, it is not funny. How do they get it so wrong? John, Cairns There seems to be one huge omission from the debate on how to combat bullying in schools and online. Have a look at the number of adults and parents on our roads tailgating. They are directly teaching children bullying. And that is only one example. Reader, Cairns Re: crocs. Allow rangers to do a great service removing and culling dangerous crocodiles, never swim in salt or brackish water creeks and rivers in North Queensland. Cairns Regional Council needs to fence off parts of White Rock with homes that back on to Trinity Inlet which is a crocodile habitat. Fisher, Cairns Re: Paul Murray’s column (5/2). Paul you spelt it out. Spot on. We all heard Bill Shorten say: “We have no worries about dual citizenship.” Really? Don, Earlville South Australia to roll out 50,000 “free” solar panel and battery wall kits. “Free” because electricity-users pay. SA’s biggest export will soon be people who can think. Those who want to live the green dream should move there. Woz, Parramatta Park Sorry to see Tosca’s go. We have celebrated many special occasions there over many years. Excellent service, consistent good prices and great staff. A true Cairns icon. Hope Tosca’s find another venue. IG, Edge Hill Re: D. Mission Beach (CP, 5/2). You hit the nail on the head with your logic. My parents were migrants who came here legally and worked hard to contribute to its growth and prosperity. However, in the last world war, my father was interned in a camp simply because he was deemed ‘a wog’ by authorities, even though he wasn’t. So our family felt the brunt of this racism and prejudice. Yet we too proudly celebrate being Aussies on Australia Day in January and, whenever the occasion presents itself, we loudly yell: “Oi, Oi, Oi” in response to the chant: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie”.
