Calling all pet owners
RESIDENTS living in the Cook Shire are reminded to check the council’s impound register if you are missing a pet or looking for a new fur baby to join your family. If an animal belongs to you and you would like to arrange release, then contact the council during business hours (8.45am to 4.45pm weekdays) on 4069 5444. The council also regularly has animals available for rehoming. Contact the animal management team for further information.
Paving in progress
COOKTOWN residents are reminded to be aware of changed traffic, parking and pedestrian conditions currently in place around Cooktown’s IGA Supermarket. Cook Shire Council staff and contractors are completing paving works.
Sewerage upgrade
SEWERAGE works on John Koowarta Drive, Aurukun, were well underway before the heavy rain moved in across the region. Five new council blocks are connected and another four surveyed. The sewerage pump station in Tal Tal Street has been upgraded to service MacKenzie Contractors Camp 1 and 2 and to enable the capacity for many future connections in MacKenzie Drive. The total project budget is $852,000 with $500,000 from the Department of State Development, $292,000 from Working for Queensland 17-19 and $60,000 from Aurukun Shire Council.
Motorists warned
WITH heavy rainfall and a chance of thunderstorms forecast throughout the Cape York Peninsula region this week, motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution on roads. Floodwater at dangerously high levels have already been recorded at the Archer River on the Peninsula Developmental Road.
