Primed for year of surprises

By Jake Sullivan, Year 4, Our Lady Help of Christians

-

IN YEAR 4 there were a few surprises for me. The first surprise being the teacher.

Ali Lock, who was my Year 1 teacher, is now my torture … oops, teacher this year.

The next surprise this year is the Social and Emotional Learning Awards have been swapped to a Spirit of Mercy Awards.

The school is reinforcing the mercy spirit by doing this.

Everyone will improve their behaviour, and not just because of the awards, in good spirit.

This gives me the opportunity to improve my behaviour by following the school values of community, respect, justice, empathy and forgiveness.

I, and everyone else, will have to work on the school values to win these new and improved awards. I’m going to try to apply myself and be the best I can be.

The next and final surprise was about the specialist teachers.

The time we spend with them has been changed from 40 minutes to an hour each.

It means we get to spend more time doing physical education, art and drama.

To me, it means that by the end of the year, in physical education they’re going to have to name me Usain Bolt.

In art I’m going to make an artistic masterpiece and after all that extra time in drama you are going to see me on TV soon.

“It looks like the Year 4 kids have a busy year ahead. I’m sure you’ll have fun,” said Jessica Sullivan when I asked her about what it was like at the Parent Information night on February 1.

In conclusion, the year will hold many surprises and lots of work, but I’ll have fun.

WELCOMING: St Andrew’s Catholic College defence school transition aide and mentor Joanne Lawson said the school’s Prep level defence force students have had “a lot of fun settling in to the new year, meeting new friends and getting to being creative”. “They all enjoyed gathering for a picnic to support each other while parents are away and prepared some welcome home signs for when their parents return,” she said.
