On traffic congestion

-

Re: new Bill Fulton lights and proposed Smithfield bypass lights. It beggars belief that anyone can think that adding more traffic lights can free up the flow. Frank, Redlynch There are plans for another set of lights on the highway at Innisfail at the whopping cost of $5.3 million. Give me the money to fix the problem and I’ll keep the change. Traffic lights are simply the “we’re too lazy to think of anything else” solution. Jim, Tully In regards to the traffic congestions Cairns now has. I voiced my concerns years ago and pointed out the council needed to cap population growth like Noosa had. Now it’s too late, the lifestyle we once had is gone forever. Thank you greedy council. Matt, Trinity Beach The Smithfield bypass needs to be an overpass across the roundabout – as it was designed for and just like they do in Brisbane. Anything less is an inferior solution. Higgs, Tolga Enormous economic and environmental risk. John Pratt, Mooroobool The subsidy-harvesting wind installation at Walkamin isn’t finished. (CP, 7/2). All such projects should be put on hold until alarmists can prove CO2 causes global warming. Mic, Cairns mongering coming from a Cairns radio station. Words like tidal wave and plague to depict youth crime and crocodile issues in Cairns. Meanwhile police, magistrates and rangers are doing their job as expected. Progressive, Cairns Back when I went to primary school in the 1980s, every child had one swimming lesson a week provided by the state Education Department. Schools did not have pools so we were transported by bus to the old Edmonton pool. Why is this a problem for the State Government? Lives will be saved. Get cracking and do something before another child drowns. Reader, Cairns The City of Brisbane urges residents to pick up at least two pieces of litter per week. I would urge all Cairns residents to pick up at least two pieces a day if we are ever to have a tidy town. Greg, Manunda Good on you Rita Panahi (CP, 6/2). Another journalist who’s in touch with the rest of us. Feminist groups don’t have the right to impose judgment on those of you that want to work as “grid girls” or “card holders” in the boxing game. Stand up to them. Don, Earlville Warren Entsch should go live in Western Australia. He was happy to give them the patrol boat contract and now he wants to give them some of our GST. Luke, Bungalow
