Places to take your loved one

LOVE is in the air with St Valentine’s Day fast approaching.

If you are struggling to think of any special way to celebrate the Most Romantic Day of the Year, perhaps consider taking your loved one on an adventure this weekend to celebrate the great romance of the tropics.

Here is a list of some of our most beautiful places to help get hearts aflutter:

TRINITY BEACH CLIFF WALK

This one is a pearler of a place to visit on a first, second and even 127th date.

Start out with a romantic dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants at Trinity Beach, then head north along Vasey Esplanade. Once you get to the end of the road, there is a staircase leading up the cliff. Follow this up to a trail that takes you out along the headland between Trinity and Kewarra beaches. About halfway along, there is a short detour out onto a makeshift lookout, where you can sit, relax and admire the stars twinkling in the night sky. Now that’s amore.

NUDEY BEACH

Yes, clothing is optional at this cheeky beach on Fitzroy Island, but it is also one of our most picturesque places. A day trip to the island, which is only 45 minutes away by boat, is an idyllic day out. Hire or take your own snorkelling gear to chase fish through the fringing coral reef, hike up to the lighthouse, and finally, lounge on Australia’s recently voted number one beach with your soulmate, admiring the cyan water as it gently laps against the gorgeous white sand and coral rubble.

GLACIER ROCK

This is a great hike for a couple’s day out. Start at Stoney Creek and head up the track to reach one of the most spectacular views of Cairns. The return walk can take up to three hours, but it is well worth it for the panorama alone. Take a picnic so it’s not just a feast for your eyes up there. Bring swimmers along after you descend, so you can have a dip at Stoney Creek after the hike.

FAIRY FALLS

You may have been to Crystal Cascades a few times and dabbled in the bottom pools, but if you keep going further up the falls, you will find a secret swimming spot that is amazing to visit. Find the track to the falls at the far end of the Crystal Cascades carpark, and follow it into the rainforest for about a kilometre. Make sure you bring proper footwear as it can get quick rocky in places, and the last thing you want to do when bringing someone you want to impress to this special place is spend the rest of the date in Cairns Hospital’s ED. The falls are hidden away from the world with sheer walls making the perfect private spot.
