Gliddon’s shooting for perfect free-throw season

- JORDAN GERRANS

TAIPANS skipper Cameron Gliddon would like to be playing for a finals spot tonight in Perth but instead he is on the verge of a unique NBL record.

The shooting guard has not missed a free throw all season and has two games remaining at Perth Arena against the Wildcats to try to go the entire season without missing, with his record at 43 without fail.

BJ Carter from Sydney has the most free throws for any player in an entire season without a miss, making 16 straight in 2006.

Gliddon’s last free-throw miss on the road was at Perth Arena late last season.

Speaking on TABradio in Perth yesterday morning, the skipper said the milestone had become a talking point.

“It has become a bit crazy because every time I go to the free throw line now, everyone knows it,” Gliddon said.

“There has been a bit more trash talk than I am used too.

“It has been a bit funny but hopefully I can go the whole year without missing one.

“Daniel Kickert from Brisbane and New Zealand’s coach Paul Henare have said a few things to try to get in my head.”

The Wildcats have won their past five in a row and seven of their last eight home games against the Taipans. But both regular season games in Perth between the Wildcats and Taipans last season went to overtime, which should give the men in orange confidence.

“We need to be physical and make it tough,” Gliddon said.
