With the Cairns Port Authority attracting a record number of cruise ships into Cairns, why the need for widening and dredging a harbour with a ecosystem that is already under pollution stress? The future of inlet recreational and charter fishing, crabbing, boating and the local businesses that supply and support those activities are at risk. Fisher, Cairns I’m sick of picking up rubbish along Mulgrave Rd. Please put your rubbish in the bin and do the right thing. Janelle, Woree Re: Rob Dean (CP, 9/2), so a pack a day smoker pays about $1000 a week in tax? Jeez, that’s some expensive smokes. Stu, Brinsmead Well Bill Shorten, what about showing some love for us living in the Far North suffering with the worst economic climate we have endured for 30 years and put some real jobs on the table? Reader, Cairns Cairns parkers certainly are a motley crew. If you have a small car the major problem seems to be massive 4x4s parking next to you. Most shopping centre car parks were probably designed for regular sized cars, not vehicles the size of buses, with massive doors. There should be separate sections in car parks with larger spaces for 4x4s. Reader, Woree Re: Catherine Williams (CP, 10/2) on parking. Exactly how it is. Thank you councillors. We are another family that don’t go into CBD on weekends anymore. Don, Earlville Re: crime. When will leaders make a statement of genuine reassurance that real measures to make us feel safe are in progress? Reader, Cairns If we are to implement compulsory swimming lessons in schools (which is a worthwhile endeavour), can we then extend school hours (and increase wages) so we’re not expecting our educators to cram this in as well as the rest of the curriculum into an already crowded day?
