Saturday 10th The South Johnstone Mongrels travelled to Babinda to take on Babinda in the Ivan Granich Shield. After a slow start the men rallied together to come back and win the match. South Johnstone will travel to Innisfail this Saturday for a top of the table clash against Innisfail. Squad to represent South Johnstone is S.McInerney, M.Roots, T.Edgerton, J.Zaini, K.Foord, M.Hooker, R.McCarthy and T.Kerrigan, Reserves P.Longford and T.Burns. Sunday 11th Social Bowls, Tim Kerrigan, Bev Anderson, Peter Longford and Kevin Villalba defeated Wally Kriesel, Steve Ollson, Anna Rowbotham and Fred Caltabiano 24 - 15 Working bee this Sunday the 18th at 7am A cooling breeze was a pleasant relief on Monday afternoon when twenty three players met to play their social mixed game. Winners were John Frisch, Jim Hope and Sean Ellison. Every Monday regardless of the weather this activity is repeated for three enjoyable hours commencing at 1.30pm as the green is covered from any rain. Selector Rosemary requires names of players to be on hand before 11.30am on playing day by phoning 40360624 or alternatively advising West Cairns Bowls Club before 1.00pm. Cards are called at 1.15pm. Last Monday our membership increased by three following the return of one player who has been away for a long time and the addition of two players from the West Cairns Bowls Club joining our social group. Selectors Wednesday, Sue and Sunday, Bruno It was once again pleasing to see 33 players on the green on Thursday despite the threatening skies. An enjoyable afternoon of bowls was had by all. The winners were G.Goes, R.Maguire, Snow Clark and Greg McDonald. Gordon was quick to compliment the selectors on their excellent job. However the real winners were S.Dallapozza, S.Pagano, W.Pepper and W.Hoskins as they took out the Jackpot. On Saturday 13 Players enjoyed the social game with G.Kirkman, S.Pagano, H.Patterson taking out the bragging rights. The representative side travelled to Babinda for the Granitch Shield and managed a draw against Tully to remain second in the overall tally. Next week we meet the leaders South Johnstone on our home ground. On Sunday F.Catelan, G.Goes,G.Edgerton and T.Perkins played T.Curran, P.Broccardo, R.Maguire, G.Anderson in a first round game in the Club Fours. Terry’s team took an early lead but Frank’s team fought back to even the score on the 20th end. Frank played a real captain’s knock to win the last end with his last bowl to win the game 1817. Players are urged to check the notice board as the Games Director will be calling more games to be played. Sunday 11 th of February: Eight players braved the heat.
