Pooling our skills for great carnival

-

IN WEEK nine this term, St Andrew’s Catholic College Year 4 and 5 students will be having a swimming carnival.

There will be many events with the swim techniques including freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.

Unfortunately for the awesome swimmers there is no butterfly.

In preparation for this, Year 4 and 5 students have been having lessons to get ready for the big carnival.

Lessons have been on Mondays at the pool at Kewarra Beach.

The swimming pool has an enormous windmill sitting out the front of it.

At the swimming lesson, the instructors have been encouraging us to swim our fastest times.

They have also encouraged us to practice in our home swimming pools.

We have different swimming strokes that we are good at.

Jess is amazing at freestyle, Ben is great at backstroke and Jake is fast at freestyle.

Hopefully, our College House Hollows will win the day with our swimming.

In class, to help us with our swimming carnival, we have been learning about water safety.

Some water safety tips we have learnt are fence the pool and shut the gate.

There have also been some tips about being safe at the beach.

Also, if someone is in trouble, instead of jumping in, children should get something long to reach the person in trouble.

We think that we will be well prepared for our swimming carnival.

We will have fast swimming times by week nine with all the training that we have been doing and we will be safe because we have been learning about water safety rules.
